"coolest gang" Everyone wants to write for the coolest gang – at least those who know what's possible with such a lineup. This is not about pleasing; it's about friction: jazz in full vitality meets contemporary sound thinking. Origins are not asserted but questioned – and reinvented. Composed without a safety net, performed without a second bottom. Ruthless personal style is not a risk here, but the program itself. Music that doesn't ask permission – it simply happens. For the Janus Ensemble, it is important that music serves not merely as a musical uniform for different social groups – such as classical music consumption for bourgeois society – but uses its stirring power to reflect on the disturbing signs of our time. Too often, music caught between precarity and high culture presents itself as apolitical, delivering only what is expected: the soundtrack for burying one's head in the sand. A distinctive feature of the Janus Ensemble is its focus on works at the intersection of contemporary music and jazz. Tatjana Wurzer – vocals, Paul Amann – bass trombone, Simon Teurezbacher – tuba, Simon Raab – synthesizer, Robert Pockfuss – electric guitar, Tibor Kövesdi – electric bass, double bass, Andreas Senn – drums, Joanna Lewis – violin, Gerhard Marschner – viola, Arne Kircher – cello, Christoph Cech – conductor. Works by: Magdalena Müller-Hauszer, Maria Dörfler, Bernhard Geigl, Stepan Flagar, Leonardo Aristeguita, Marina Vesic. With kind support from BMWKMS (Arts Division) / SKE / City of Vienna.
