Black Rooster Kapelye revives an almost forgotten Jewish-Baltic musical heritage. The ensemble performs rarely heard repertoire from Latvia, Lithuania, and Latgale – material collected around 1900 by Latvian musicologist Emilis Melngailis ("Black Rooster"). With deep knowledge of tradition and creative freedom, the musicians transform centuries-old material into a living dialogue of cultures. Their music tells of the Baltic region as a shared homeland of many peoples, whose songs, languages, and stories shaped generations. A journey of discovery filled with color, stories, and surprising soundscapes. Line-up: Craig Judelman – violin, vocals; Eli Ellere – vocals, percussion; Ilya Shneyveys – accordion, guitar, flutes, vocals; Ilga Vālodze Ābelkina – vocals, bagpipes, flutes, kokle, vargan; Jānis Zemgus Jātnieks – accordion, mandolin, vocals; Sasha Lurje – vocals, poyk (frame drum)
