DAK: Descartes a Kant (Mex) Equal parts punk, metal, pop, shoegaze and cabaret, the critically-acclaimed underground sextet Descartes a Kant from Guadalajara, Mexico have established themselves as an otherworldly, unpredictable theatrical live act. So much so that the Wall Street Journal noted: "trying to describe their music is to do it a disservice. It's loud, racy, incredibly imaginative, sophisticated, funny and wild; it's as if the Yeah Yeah Yeahs fronted Albert Ayler with Frank Zappa conducting". They're considered one of the leading lights in Mexico's vibrant, ever-evolving experimental underground and are poised for greater international recognition. Led by strong female characters, their earlier releases Paper Dolls (an intense, bipolar hardcore album exploring multiple personality) and Il Visore Lunatique (a tribute to psychiatric disorders spanning hip-hop and bizarre Broadway-style musical) have taken them to perform for club and festival audiences worldwide – including Mexico, USA, Russia, Brazil and beyond – sharing bills with The Melvins, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Sonic Youth, Explosions in the Sky and Slayer. Descartes a Kant return in 2023 with their new studio album After Destruction. Released September 29th in all formats, this conceptual work explores cycles of existential creation and destruction. After Destruction portrays psychic discomfort in a compulsively hyper-communicative yet emotionally isolated society, featuring retro-futuristic aesthetics, destructive guitars, synthesizers and soulful melodies.
