DESCRIPTION:For their joint eleven-year anniversary\, Paul Schuberth and Tomáš Novák are treating themselves to a new album – and remain faithful to their distinctive and unmistakable blend of jazz\, new music\, folk music\, and imaginary folk music. Fransenüberblick brings together much of what the accordion-violin duo has developed over the past years: original compositions\, reimagined standards\, traditional pieces in new guises and pseudo-traditional pieces in old ones\, chansons\, and set texts – including work by Jura Soyfer. The album title not only references a piece by Paul Schuberth but also the duo's musical principle: the most diverse musical elements come together into a surprisingly cohesive whole. Whether this results in a quirky patchwork or a finely crafted ear warmer is left to the audience's imagination. Paul Schuberth\, classically trained accordionist\, moves between contemporary music\, improvisation\, and political composition. Tomáš Novák is a violinist\, singer\, and stylistic boundary-crosser between jazz\, classical\, folk\, klezmer\, and chanson.
