Composed by Kristin Norderval for the chamber ensemble Studio Dan, THE SAILMAKER'S WIFE is a music theatre parable about contemporary climate and economic crises that seduce humanity with a Faustian pact: wealth instead of life. Julian Crouch's modern retelling of the Japanese folk tale Tsuru no Ongaeshi (The Crane of Silent Devotion) tells the story of an everyman whose response to moral dilemmas conjures a future in which people take the earth for granted without recognising the consequences. Ivar Smedstad's video recordings of Norwegian oil drilling situate the drama in an industrial backdrop that could be anywhere in the world. WORLD PREMIERE. *Discounts apply to: colleagues in performing arts and music, students and apprentices, under 26, IG Freie Theater, MAK season ticket holders, holders of a disability pass. *Care tickets are available for those who cannot easily afford it at the moment.
