On the occasion of photography's 200-year anniversary, the Francisco Carolinum has launched an open photography competition that celebrates photography in all its forms, involves as many people as possible in Upper Austria, and gives visibility to both professional and non-professional photographers. The project comprised two competition categories – one for artistic photography, aimed at artists and the Upper Austrian art and photography scene. The high-caliber jury unanimously awarded the newly established Erli Grünzweil Prize for Artistic Photography to Erli Grünzweil (born 1992 in Rohrbach). This decision recognizes an exciting, emerging position in the Austrian art scene while signaling support for contemporary perspectives. In a hobby competition conducted in cooperation with OÖ Nachrichten and Energie AG OÖ, Upper Austrians were invited to contribute photographs on the themes of nature and landscape. The 30 most-voted photographs are now also on display at the Francisco Carolinum. Yet the participatory spirit doesn't end in the digital realm: during the exhibition run, visitors can vote on their final favorite in person.
