Mezzo-soprano Kate Lindsey and soprano Lisette Oropesa duel as Mary Stuart and Queen Elizabeth I in Donizetti’s “Maria Stuarda” at the 2025 Salzburg Festival. Set on the eve of Mary’s execution, it traces vivid psychological portraits of both queens, including a fiery fictional encounter. Ulrich Rasche directs, Antonello Manacorda conducts the Vienna Philharmonic.
