August 7–9, 2026 / ALL THAT FREUD! / Festival weekend through August 30, 2026 / ECHOKAMMER FREUD / Festival exhibition: 3 concerts, 3 author readings, 1 text reading, 1 performance with puppet play, 3 discussions, 1 thematic exhibition. This year's CONTEMPORARY ART FESTIVAL focuses on contemporary art's current interest in Sigmund Freud's person and work, and his historical context. Freud's lasting influence on modern art, theory, and popular culture is undeniable. Surrealism itself had already chosen him as an advocate of the unconscious worlds of dreams and images; a large part of postwar literature, philosophy, painting, and film art is replete with borrowings from the psychoanalytic legacy and references to Freud's ideas. Through cultural appropriation, Freud has become not only an immovable pillar saint of therapy history, but also an iconic artistic figure with unbroken resonance in contemporary artistic creation. Present-day literature, music, and art are interested in key moments in Freud's biography and engage associatively with some of his concepts. Since Freud's contributions to dream interpretation, the psyche, and drive theory were primarily concepts, they remained open to interpretation by subsequent generations—which best promotes today's artistic approach to analytical thought.
