The concert with which the Bruckner Orchestra Linz opens the cycle of Great Orchestras in season 26–27 delivers nothing less than the most dramatic gesture possible. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's 6th Symphony in B minor stands as one of the great works in music history at the heart of the program, which begins equally fatefully with the Sinfonia from Giuseppe Verdi's opera La forza del destino. Making her debut on the podium is Anna Rakitina, one of the most exciting conductors of the young generation, who in recent years has achieved success worldwide from the New York Philharmonic to the Staatskapelle Dresden. Joining her as soloist is Stefan Dohr, one of the leading horn players of our time: principal horn of the Berlin Philharmonic since 1993 and internationally in demand as a soloist and chamber musician. Dohr brings the Austrian premiere of the highly virtuosic horn concerto by Icelandic-German composer Steingrímur Rohloff, whose music dances nimbly between styles and shimmers in luminous timbral colors—adding himself to the illustrious line of composers who have written new works specifically for Dohr.
