COUSINES LIKE SHIT is the band project of Austrian cousins Hannah and Laura Breitfuß. What began as a shared passion between two Salzburg natives has evolved into a distinctive and unmistakable sonic universe. From the start, it was clear to both: founding a band with your cousin is absolutely the greatest. Since their first songs together in 2016, they have pursued their creative process consistently as a duo—intuitive, playful, and with a fine sense for nuance. The project received a decisive impulse in New York. With remarkable fearlessness, they reached out to numerous clubs—shortly after, they were already performing on a stage in Brooklyn. This energy has shaped their path ever since and remains palpable in their music today. Cousines Like Shit describe their style as "Avant Trash": an idiosyncratic blend of lo-fi aesthetics, indie pop, punk, and experimental lightness. Striking guitars meet reduced, atmospheric arrangements, complemented by the cousins' characteristic two-part vocals. Lyrically, they dissect human quirks, relationship dynamics, and societal absurdities with sharp wit and self-irony, moving playfully between directness and exaggeration. Following the EP "Young And Online," their debut album "Avant Trash" establishes the programmatic foundation of their artistic identity. Songs like "Barbie," "Vivid Sassy," and "Ziggy Ziggy" capture that raw energy oscillating between nonchalance and precise observation.
