EsRAP
EsRAP has established itself as a role model of Austrian resistant pop art with migrant roots through their releases and concerts in recent years and enjoys corresponding media attention. Growing up in the old Viennese working-class district of Ottakring, siblings Esra and Enes Özmen found the perfect medium in hip hop to make their voices heard and gain recognition for their own lived reality with all its conflicts. Together, the two form the duo EsRAP and address questions of identity, otherness in one's own country as third-generation children, the necessity of resistance experienced firsthand, rap as resistance, and womanhood in the male-dominated hip hop world through their mixed German/Turkish lyrics. In contrast to typical role division in this genre, Esra delivers the hard and fast rhymes while her brother Enes contributes the more melodic vocal parts with his sensitive voice. Musically, EsRAP draws inspiration from the Turkish-Oriental genre Arabesk, which they enjoy combining with modern beats. After many tracks released on digital channels, their debut album "Tschuschistan" appeared in June 2019 on Berlin label Springstoff. Subsequently, the siblings brought highly accomplished band GASMAC GILMORE on board, which not only provided an additional intensity boost live but proved to be a logical musical expansion toward "Balkan sounds with a Spaghetti Western touch" since the anthem "Freunde dabei." In July 2022, EsRAP's second album "Mamafih" was released on Springstoff with great public interest, created entirely under prolific beat producer TESTA's direction. In September 2023, their first collaborative album with Gasmac Gilmore, "...weil sie Wien nicht kennen," was released and presented at the sold-out Vienna Concert Hall. In
