About the exhibition

The Urban Tree by Christian Hofstadler Urban trees are important companions in our lives and play a significant role in human health, well-being, and experiencing nature in the city. Especially in recent times, they have become indispensable due to climate change and the growing disconnection from nature among city dwellers. For many people, trees above all embody beauty. Through their external changes throughout the year, they significantly contribute to experiencing the seasons. The scent of many tree species also changes with the seasons. A city without trees is therefore a city without seasons. The various visual impressions regarding leaf colors, tree crown architecture, and tree trunk structure also contribute to positive human perception. Trees thus have high value for human health, especially in urban areas: parks are often referred to as "therapeutic landscapes." Trees significantly promote environmental awareness in cities, conveying to residents the principles of sustainability as important foundations of environmental protection. Their function in providing shade and increasing air humidity becomes ever more important as temperatures rise. In the urban context, the tree is therefore vital for survival. Trees also play an important role in spatial organization and architecture in urban areas. Tree-lined avenues and rows along streets and paths have served for centuries for orientation and guidance, for structuring and organizing squares and spaces. They direct the human gaze and show us the way. Distinctive trees at certain street corners often serve as indicators of a turn or change of direction. Architecturally, trees are also used to emphasize building forms, frame facades, or provide contrast to building facades. This photo project attempts to provide insights into these various functions of urban trees without claiming to be comprehensive. Featured are trees as individual specimens, as well as groups and rows of trees in public urban spaces. VERNISSAGE Thursday 02.07.26 7 PM OPENING DAYS Friday 03.07.26 3–6 PM, Saturday 04.07
