About the exhibition
In this photographic series, the photographer examines the social significance of spaces. The focus is on public houses in rural regions of Upper Austria that have already closed or are about to close. She approaches the pub as a silent archive of lived community through photography. Faded colours, patina and aged wood bear traces of conversations and habits that were once taken for granted here. The images point to the disappearance of social spaces and the void they leave in communal life. Nostalgia and memory form the atmospheric framework of the series and open up the question of what remains when such spaces fall silent and where community is negotiated today.
