What happens when an excavator meets history? The Science Café offers insights into the work of Vienna's urban archaeology and shows how archaeological research functions in the heart of a major city – between construction sites, time pressure, and urban development. The focus is on current finds and new discoveries about Vienna's history that came to light during construction projects in recent years. Kristina Adler-Wölfl studied classical archaeology in Vienna and gained experience in places including Velia (Southern Italy), Ephesos, and Limyra (Southern Turkey). Her dissertation brought her back to Vienna, where she has since been researching the history of Vindobona and its surrounding region. Since 2023, she has headed Vienna's Urban Archaeology department. Cooperation: as part of the Science series
