Theodore works successfully at an agency specializing in loving, handwritten letters. In times of total connectivity and voice recognition, this is a much-needed service. His private life, however, tells a different story. Theodore feels lonely since his wife left him. Even phone sex doesn't ease the pain. So he buys a new, learning-capable and personalized system for his home computer. It calls itself Samantha and soon becomes his closest confidant and lover. But gradually, bigger problems emerge. A lonely man falls in love with his computer's personalized operating system. A utopian vision of the near future from Spike Jonze, disguised as a tender love story between man and machine.
