Eleven-year-old Santino's home is the circus. Together with his large family and their animals, he travels through the countryside in a caravan. His everyday life is shaped by the ring, setup and breakdown, and constant movement. He is especially close to his great-grandfather Ehe, one of Germany's last great circus directors, who tells him stories of a past filled with daring stunts, freedom, and adventure. The film follows Santino on his journey through a world between magic and reality. As he grows into his family's footsteps, he faces the question of what place he will find for himself in the ring.
