Edition Hawara launches its new sublabel Hawara International with a listening party dedicated to its debut release: Takashi Shima's For Light Tanning, part of the Sun Tan Club series. Originally produced by Shima — keyboardist of the band Piper — the record was designed for a very specific purpose: the pursuit of the perfect summer tan. Released with tanning instructions, oil recommendations and a promotional tie-in with Hawaiian Tropic, it drifts between ambient, new age and lifestyle soundtrack music, built as an elegant backdrop for beaches, pool parties and other seasonal rituals. Long forgotten outside a small circle of collectors, For Light Tanning returns as a strikingly thorough document of late-1980s leisure culture — an album that leaves little room for ambiguity about its intended use. Whether it actually improves your tan remains, to this day, unverified. Join us at Shh. Listening Bar for a full album playback & DJ sets by the label owners, presented by Edition Hawara.
