Too often, music caught between precarity and high culture presents itself as apolitical, delivering only what is expected of it: the soundtrack for burying one's head in the sand. A distinctive feature of the Janus Ensemble is its focus on works at the intersection of contemporary music and jazz. "The beauty in art ... an eternal theme ... a minefield of misunderstandings, demanded as soothing wallpaper by the risk-averse majority, deployed as a supposed killer argument against innovation tendencies in new music, as a concept it barely crosses the lips of those merely stirring up dust in such an old New Music..."
