After six assassination attempts on her life, she is appointed Brazil's first Secretary of State for Indigenous Rights. By her side stands her husband Hugo Loss, who as operations director of Brazil's environmental agency IBAMA conducts dangerous raids against illegal gold mines deep in the Amazon. When Juma discovers she is pregnant, her fight takes on a new personal dimension. Caught between political responsibility, mounting threats, and impending motherhood, she confronts the consequences of her commitment. Director Richard Ladkani followed Juma Xipaia for five years, combining an intimate portrait with one of the most pressing environmental and human rights conflicts of our time. Juma is not only the film's protagonist but also its producer and creative partner.
