Paul McKenna & Robbie Greig (SCO) Paul McKenna is a familiar face returning to Scottish Colours. His distinctive voice, direct lyrics and pleasantly understated stage presence have earned him a loyal fanbase. Since his first WELTENKLANG tour in 2009, much has happened: "Scots Singer of the Year," invitation to the Transatlantic Sessions, six albums – and songs that effortlessly blend quiet melancholy, political undertones and grand gestures. He's accompanied by violinist Robbie Greig, who previously appeared on Scottish Colours with Tannara, bringing exactly the right balance of intensity and subtlety to the songs. Paul McKenna - vocals, Robbie Greig - violin April Verch & Cody Walters (CAN/USA) The second duo brings plenty of energy: April Verch & Cody Walters blend Canadian roots, Old-Time, 1950s country and a touch of Scandinavian and Scottish folk into something that sounds both traditional and very much alive. April Verch is a fiddler, singer and step dancer – and not just casually, but at world champion level in Ottawa Valley Stepdance. Add to that over 15 albums, world tours and an evident joy in throwing folk and country together to see what happens. Alongside her: multi-instrumentalist Cody Walters from Kansas, deeply rooted in Old-Time and Bluegrass, providing groove, strings of all kinds and solid foundation beneath the soaring fiddle lines.
