Pavel Shalman & Boki Radenković Klezmer & Wir Jewish violinist Pavel Shalman embarks on a musical journey of discovery. The program Klezmer & Wir combines childhood musical memories with the present, taking audiences on a voyage filled with virtuosity, beautiful melodies, and a touch of humor. Rousing uptempo dances and historical transcriptions meet original compositions that playfully integrate elements of jazz, tango, and classical music. Yiddish vocal performances add emotional depth and connect the audience with the rich cultural tradition of klezmer. Bold improvisations and unexpected turns make each concert a unique experience. The project presents an extraordinary musical heritage: Yiddish songs about love, loss, work, and migration, Hebrew liturgical chants, and Ukrainian folk songs. Born near Kyiv in 1897, Rose Cohen emigrated to the New World as a young woman. Her songs blend personal stories with the soundscapes of Eastern Europe and Jewish traditions. This creates a powerful, genre-spanning sound drawing from Balkan, Slavic, Sephardic, and Middle Eastern influences as well as rock and electronic elements.
