Anyone who thinks jazz, punk, indie and prog rock don't go together hasn't experienced Vepsestikk yet. The uncompromising quartet from Norwegian Bergen blends all these ingredients into a sound that is simultaneously playful, energetic and surprisingly catchy. With two trumpets in stereo format, guitar, vocals and a creative rhythm section, a musical whirlwind emerges that lands somewhere between jazz-punk, dance floor and hypnotic trance. Since their debut EP Ny Person (2023), the band has been making waves. The release was celebrated in Norway as one of the year's most extraordinary debuts and earned top marks multiple times. Thematically, it explores issues many can relate to: the feeling of not having arrived yet, constantly reinventing yourself – or at least pretending you have a plan. However, Vepsestikk's true strength unfolds on stage. Raw energy meets musical sophistication, spontaneous outbursts meet precise interplay. In other words: there will be dancing, sweating and possibly a moment of forgetting which time signature you're in. The band has already played renowned festivals including Bergenfest, Nattjazz, Vossajazz, Vill Vill Vest and Bylarm Festival, and recently thrilled international audiences in Stockholm, Copenhagen and at the SPOT Festival in Aarhus.
