For their joint eleven-year anniversary, Paul Schuberth and Tomáš Novák are treating themselves to a new album – and remain faithful to their distinctive and unmistakable blend of jazz, new music, folk music, and imaginary folk music. Fransenüberblick brings together much of what the accordion-violin duo has developed over the past years: original compositions, reimagined standards, traditional pieces in new guises and pseudo-traditional pieces in old ones, chansons, and set texts – including work by Jura Soyfer. The album title not only references a piece by Paul Schuberth but also the duo's musical principle: the most diverse musical elements come together into a surprisingly cohesive whole. Whether this results in a quirky patchwork or a finely crafted ear warmer is left to the audience's imagination. Paul Schuberth, classically trained accordionist, moves between contemporary music, improvisation, and political composition. Tomáš Novák is a violinist, singer, and stylistic boundary-crosser between jazz, classical, folk, klezmer, and chanson.
