About the exhibition
A woman wearing traditional dress in Upper Austria. Each generation wears its own clothing, yet development lines persist across decades and centuries. Upper Austrian women have always been curious about new fashions, readily adopting them when their circumstances allowed. However, they remained true to region-specific traditions, expressed in details. After the end of dress codes in the mid-18th century, a distinctive Upper Austrian clothing tradition could develop. Alongside the national costume for men, Upper Austrian women also developed their own traditional dress, which continues as the state costume and is now to receive contemporary impulses.
